One Phoenix Coyotes fan is no fan of the Denver Post’s Adrian Dater. In fact, Doctor Scott Schnee, a pediatric cardiologist, apparently told Dater on Twitter a bit ago to “go catch a movie in Aurora”. Schee followed up that gem by suggesting that Dater can “join Jessica for all I care”.
Since posting the offensive Tweets, Dr. Schnee has reset his Twitter account (@BabyDocScott) to "locked " for what would appear to be obvious reasons. Naturally, the possibility exists that these horrible words were not those of Dr Scott Schnee, whos contact information is readily available on the internet. It’s more likely, however, that the doc did say these things.
This is a man who’s chosen profession is to help sick children; yet he’s apparently willing to say very, very sick things in the name of hockey.
I spoke with Peter Burns of Mile High Sports Radio to get his reaction to Schnee’s comments. Burns, who was a close friend of Jessica Redfield, the “Jessica” Schnee was referring to. He called the comments “absolutely disgusting” and was shocked that they were made by a physician.
Because they have their purple panties in a bunch over criticisms, the Colorado Rockies snubbed charitable efforts on the part of Mile High Sports. Now Jay Alves and the Rockies PR staff looks really, really bad.
Before aspiring broadcaster Jessica Redfield was taken in the Aurora theatre massacre, she was in the process of organizing a sports equipment drive to benefit athletes displaced by the wild fires near Colorado Springs.
That drive was finally held without her today. Kroenke Sports donated the use of Pepsi Center. Among the people championing the effort was Peter Burns from MIle High Sports who had been a close friend of Jessica's.
Peter snapped this pick of the Nuggets' Kenneth Faried embracing Jessica's mother at the event. It might be the best pic ever tweeted.
This is so cool. I literally have goose bumps as I type.
Flyers President, Peter Luukko said:
“We felt the best way to assist with this great cause was to offer an internship of our own to help these prospective recipients gain the real world experience of covering a professional sports team. The goal of the fund is to build futures in her name. It is our intention to assist with that in this manner.”
A female college student will be afforded the opportunity to pursue Jessica's dream of covering an NHL team from the inside and to develop her skills as a sports journalist. Jessica would have been thrilled by this. And it's extra cool that a team as far away as Philly is doing this.
Now I'm getting weepy.

Here's a cool thing. Heather Galindo, a hockey goalie and blogger, had this memorial mural painted onto her protective backplate by an outfit called Head Strong Grafix.
She told the Goalie Guild, “I was pondering ways to honor Jess when it dawned on me: My mask was at the painters with plenty of room on the backplate to fit a tribute. Jason jumped at the chance to help, and he came up with that design. I can’t believe how great it turned out. She’d be thrilled, I know!”
Way to go, Heather!
It's time to step up.
Friends of Jessica Redfield, the budding Sports Journalist who's life was taken Thursday night, has set up a scholarship fund to allow another young person (or persons) to realize her dream.
There could be no more fitting tribute to Jessica than to help somebody recieve the training neccesary to advance in the field.
It's what Jessi would have wanted. So please contribute. Even $5 helps. That's the price of a latte, people. Get on it!
