Reidy's latest column: Forgiving Jay Cutler

Resident Sports Columnist, John Reidy contributes to the A/V Club Denver/Boulder with his weekly piece titled "Jock Itch".

It's Bears week, so the current edition confronts Denver's strained relationship with quarterback, Jay Cutler.   Here are some select quotations:

"Denver fans are now boning up on their potty talk to welcome another prodigal son back to the Mile High City"

"It’s too bad, because as the Tebow train keeps rolling, Cutler will be on the sidelines watching it pass him by."

"I think the time has come to forgive Jay Cutler. That’s right—in the spirit of the holiday season, let’s let bygones be bygones and give Jay Cutler a pass"

Forgive Jay Cutler?  What is Reidy thinking?  Read his entire column RIGHT HERE.  Be sure and leave lots of nasty comments so that his editors know folks are clicking over.

this Tebow song isn't super lame

Justin Knodel and Zach Sheely put together this rather slickly produced Tim Tebow tribute song and video before the Broncos beat the Dolphins a few weeks back.  It's apparently gaining some viral cred as evidenced by the fact that we found it.  It's not super lame, which is nice.

Thanks to the AV Club for the heads-up on this.

John Reidy is finding solace from the mediocrity of Denver Sports by taking a short ride on the Rapids bandwagon.  In this weeks edition of Jock Itch, his column over at the AV Club Denver / Boulder, John points out that the Rapids, for as lame as their name is, are a consistantly competitive team - unlike some others we could mention.

"The Rapids, no matter where soccer ranks in each fan’s list of sports, deserve accolades for simply being the most successful Colorado sports franchise of the last couple years. Unlike the league’s baffling playoff format, the Rapids’ success is not confusing at all."

Just how dumb are Rockies fans?  The team seems determined to find out.  To thank everybody for coming out to watch a lousy team, Monfort and Co. has decided to raise ticket prices in 2012.  Our own John Reidy adressed this in his column, Jock Itch over at the AV Club Denver / Boulder:

"After a terrible season that left a ravenous fan base colder than date night at Michele Bachmann’s house, the Rockies did the natural thing and announced they were increasing the cost of season tickets."

"If the Rockies had used Tim Tebow to keep the heat off of them, the ticket increase would have been brushed off like a tough question at the GOP debate."

"After what was hands-down their most disappointing season to date, should the Rockies be raising ticket prices? It sounds ridiculous to pay more for a 73-88 record and a complete no-show by a team that was supposed to be great, but the Rockies feel like you should pony up the extra dough."

Hidden away, deep in the folds of this thing we call the internet, can be found a columnist named John Reidy who writes about Denver Sports for the AV Club Denver / Boulder.  In this week's edition of Jock Itch, Reidy discusses "the greatest loss in Broncos history:

"After weeks and weeks of hand-wringing, fan infighting, and lame-ass billboards, Tebow finally solidified himself as the quarterback of the team with an exciting performance in relief of Kyle Orton.."

"The Broncos lost the game, and fans were as elated as they have been in five years. The euphoria coming from Broncos Country could be seen from space, even though the team lost."

Resident sports columnist John Reidy talks the Rockies and their bounty of fans this week in his column, Jock Itch at the AV Club Denver / Boulder:

"Still, one area of the Rockies’ most disappointing season to date has been nothing but sunshine and rainbows: the suckers who filled the seats at Coors Field."

"amidst one of the worst flame-outs in Denver sports history, the Rockies still enjoyed healthy crowds out at the ballpark. Attendance was actually up from any previous year out at Coors Field since 2001"

In his column, Jock Itch, at the AV Club Denver / Boulder, our own John Reidy takes Tebow fans and the local media to task over the "billboard story" that became front-page news last week:

"nearly every other radio host and local news bag-of-hot-wind took the story and ran with it like one of Brad Pitt’s kids fell down a well"

Reidy makes the case for allowing the QB situation to develop on its own:

"If Orton continues to play with fiery mediocrity when the game is on the line, he’ll be benched by the bye week"

"Maybe it’s important to know what these guys look like, but they’re all nondescript white guys who could blend in at any bar or be members of Kings Of Leo."

Our own John Reidy is among the best Sports Columnists in Colorado.  His column, Jock Itch, appears every Tuesday at the AV Club Denver / Boulder.

In this week's edition John goes on record with some of his predictions for the Broncos' 2011 season.

"The humiliating defeat to the Raiders last season not only sealed Josh McDaniels’ fate, but completely soured an entire fan base on the Broncos in general. Beating the Raiders—not only in this upcoming Monday night match up, but roundly in the division—will be a small victory that will have the most profound effect"
