The10-6 Broncos will win the AFC West

There was much we did not yet know about the 2011 Broncos before the season began. We did, however, project them finishing the season 10-6. They will. And they will win the AFC West for the first time since 2005. We'll explain how.

The AFC Western division is a two-team race with five games left to play. The Oakland Raiders at 7-4 and the Denver Broncos at 6-5 will duel over the next few weeks for the Championship. Luckily, the Raiders have a somewhat tougher schedule and the Broncos hold a tie-breaker based on mutual opponents. Here's a list of upcoming opponents and likely outcomes of games moving forward:

RAIDERS

@ Dolphins. Loss. Record: 7-5

@ Packers. Loss. Record: 7-6

VS Lions. WIN Record: 8-6

@ Chiefs WIN Record: 9-6

VS Chargers WIN Record: 10-6

BRONCOS

@ Vikings. WIN Record: 7-5

VS Bears. WIN Record: 8-5

VS Patriots Loss. Record: 8-6

@ Bills WIN. Record: 9-6

VS Chiefs WIN. Record 10-6

The Broncos and the Raiders will finish with identical 10-6 records. Not bad for two teams in a division considered to be the worst in the league a few weeks ago. The Broncos hold the tie breaker. They will win the division and the Raiders will be left to hope for a Wild Card along with the Jets, the Bengals and who-knows-who.
