Don't sleep on the Chiefs and Alex Smith

You heard it here first, Denver. Back on January 31 I called Alex Smith to KC. Today it's a reality - or at least it will be in March once trading season officially begins. The 'Niners and Chiefs have made a deal in principal to send Alex Smith to the AFC West, reportedly in trade for a second rounder in 2014 and a "similar pick" in 2015.

That's a hefty price to pay for Alex Smith. He will make the Chiefs better instantly, though. No team, aside from perhaps the Jaguars, struggled as mightily at the QB position last season. Smith is solid - far better than any schlub the team currently hos on its roster.

Smith should give KC an outside shot at a playoff berth. The AFC West is no great shakes. The entire division, aside from the Broncos, in is turmoil. There's plenty of room for KC to slither in as a Wild Card if Andy Reid can capitalize.
