It’s stunning to think that the New England Patriots have not won a Super Bowl since the 2004 season. Stunning and supremely gratifying.
Denver’s premature exit from the playoffs, hastened by the Baltimore Ravens, was a tough nut for Broncos fans to swallow. But the fact that the Ravens also went into Foxborough and dispatched the Pats certainly helps. It means that we won’t have to spend the next two weeks watching the National media fawn over the least classy team in all of sports.
They’re the scum of the earth, those chowder-munching cheaters. I’m no Ray Lewis fan, either, but it will be less torturous watching that murderous hypocrite praise Jesus on media day than it would have been watching Bill Belichick dryly go through the motions, offering only half-answers and eye rolls to reporters.
It’s true that the Patriots have not been champions since they were caught cheating in the scandal known as “Spygate”. They were 12-2 in the playoffs before that. They’re 5-5 in the playoffs since. Just deserts. Their overall record since getting caught with their hands in the cookie jar is an NFL best 80-24 but they have no hardware to show for it. The Patriots and their fans have been closer to grasping that golden ring than anybody else for almost a decade now but have only one Lombardi Trophy to show for it.
They’re awful losers, too. Shannon Sharpe called them out for it. When Bill Belichick refused to grant CBS a customary interview after the Patriots loss on Sunday Sharpe said live on-air “it’s easy to root against them” because of the type of behavior their head coach exhibits.
He’s smarter than you. You’re an idiot. Everyone else is an idiot – and the Patriots fart lilacs. That’s always been the vibe than the unsmiling Belichick has given off. And that’s why it’s so awesome that the Massholes were sent home. The Ravens are by far the lesser of two evils.
Did you see Tom Brady kick Bernard Pollard on Sunday in the midst of sliding to protect his own hide? That little move perfectly summed up the New England Patriots and their filthy tactics. Use the rules to your advantage; break them when you don’t think you’ll get caught. It works for them most of the time – but eventually karma seems to catch up them.
The jerks who cheer them on are no classier that the Patriots themselves. Ravens wide out Torrey Smith learned that this week. Smith recently lost his brother in a motorcycle accident – and Patriots fans did not hesitate to throw that in his face after the game. They assailed him with brother reference both in person and on Twitter. Smith Tweeted: “Played a lot of games since my brothers death and I never received as many rude tweets after a win than Sunday...yet NE fans cry about class”.
The Patriots are the least classy team in all of pro sports. Their fans only follow suit. Good riddance and go Niners.
